The Gandhare rifle is based on the real life Gahendra rifle and is the most fun rifle I ever worked on (so far) it has such an interesting history. The TLDR of it is that Nepal wanted military rifles but Britain wouldn't sell them weapons, so they made their own variant of the english ”martini henry”, the really cool stuff is that they are mostly done by hand, opposed to the standard industrialized weapon manufacturing. So we had a cultural consultant named Suraj Ratna Shakya working with us to get the rifle text correct as well as represent it the best way.. The rifle also had much more detailing time then usually since most weapons in COTW are fairly new, but this one was meant to be an old rifle that had been refurbished by a grandchild of the original owner, since a lot of Gahendra rifles have been stored with high humidity and have oxidized. It was an absolute dream to get to work on.
Special thanks to Sam Kohvakka and Sanna Friberg for lending me their props from the game when posing the rifle on the table in one of the renders for marketing.
